Faculty Profile
Dr. Elaine Bernius is a Professor of Biblical Studies in ¶¶Òõ̽̽App’s School of Theology and Ministry. She began teaching classes in Bible and biblical languages at ¶¶Òõ̽̽App in 2005. Her love and passion for studying and teaching the Bible were incubated in her childhood home and church, ignited on her first trip to the Holy Land, cultivated as a classical and biblical languages major in college, refined as a graduate student in Comparative Semitic linguistics, and magnified as a teacher and life-long learner.
Within this journey, the Lord called her to ministry, and she was ordained as a minister in the Church of the Nazarene in 2008. She has a heart for ministering to college students who are themselves in the midst of this incredibly formative time of life.
Elaine met her husband Brian in college (in Hebrew class!), and their family now includes four precious children—Todd Matthew, Asher Elizabeth, Ruth Edwina, and Lydia Elyse—and a pup Hadassah (Dassy).
With a nod to her favorite musical The Sound of Music, these are a few of her favorite things: coffee (especially McConn’s), a comfy spot by a fireplace with a good novel, Kentucky Derby pie, dogs, traveling, snow, and middle names. Don’t ask her to pick her favorite class; that’s too hard. She loves them all!
